HOK is seeking a Software Developer to join our forward-thinking Design Technology team. In this role, you’ll help design and build custom software tools that support our architects, engineers, and planners across the globe. You’ll work closely with cross-disciplinary teams to improve workflows, explore emerging technologies, and contribute to open-source initiatives that shape the future of design.

What You’ll Do
• Develop and maintain custom software applications that support design and planning workflows
• Collaborate with internal teams to understand needs and deliver scalable, user-friendly solutions
• Explore and integrate emerging technologies, including AI, where appropriate
• Contribute to open-source projects and internal tools developed by HOK
• Provide technical support and guidance to project teams
• Promote sustainable and efficient software practices
What You Bring
Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in front-end development: HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Electron
• Experience with back-end and database technologies: Node.js, ASP.NET, SQL, MongoDB
• Strong programming skills in C#, Python, or C++
• Familiarity with AI tools (e.g., OpenAI, Ollama) and generative design tools (e.g., Stable Diffusion, ComfyUI) is a plus
• Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows
Soft Skills:
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
• A passion for innovation, problem-solving, and continuous learning
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field
• Experience with Azure DevOps or similar CI/CD tools
• At least 1 year of experience developing software for architectural or design applications (preferred)
• Experience working in integrated, cross-disciplinary teams

Compensation is based on experience, qualification, education and location.
The reasonably expected salary range for this position in:
• Chicago is $100,000 – $120,000
• Denver is $95,000 – $115,000
• Los Angeles is $100,000 – $120,000
• New York is $100,000 – $120,000
• Seattle is $95,000 – $120,000
Other compensation may include discretionary bonus in all locations.
