JOB SUMMARY

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and specification of electrical systems and associated tasks. The Electrical Engineer works under the guidance of Senior Engineers to complete assignments and develop knowledge and skills. The Electrical Engineer is required to have knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within their field.

DURING A TYPICAL DAY

  • Design and draft complete electrical systems for industrial applications.
  • Review project P&ID’s and ensure any changes or updates are incorporated into the electrical package drawings.
  • Develop and review project concepts and preliminary electrical designs based on information presented from all disciplines.
  • Perform detailed electrical design.
  • Assist in the development of electrical bid packages.
  • Provide electrical project management to ensure installation meets all code requirements.
  • Support the troubleshooting, configuration, instrumentation, and power issues that arise in electrical systems during project commissioning and start-up; schedule commissioning and startup activities so impacts to production are minimized.
  • Providing ongoing support to the project to accommodate updates and changes.
  • Estimate costs, personnel and material needs for projects.
  • Prepare proposals, write specifications and establish completion dates for equipment, materials, and systems.
  • Work with vendors and contractors on various projects, including bid packages, specifications, ordering materials and equipment, and aiding in installation oversight.
  • Review and award vendor contracts, review and approve vendor drawings, and work with project teams in defining project needs.
  • Meet all safety, budget, and schedule requirements.
  • Assist in new technology research and testing to improve processes.
  • Assist with on-site commissioning and start-up activities.
  • Provide on-going engineering support to other POET groups and facilities.
  • Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.
  • Maintain a team environment at all times and champion POET in the community.

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent engineering field, required.
  • Experience requirements:
  • Electrical Engineer I: No experience required
  • Electrical Engineer II: 4 or more years of overall experience with 3 or more years of experience in a related industry.
  • Electrical Engineer III: 8 or more years of overall experience with 6 or more years of experience in a related industry.
  • Senior Electrical Engineer: 12 or more years of overall experience with 10 or more years of experience in a related industry.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering examination preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to adapt to change.
  • You communicate effectively in writing and in person.
  • You have the ability to understand technical and day to day operation of a bioprocessing facility.
  • You know the basics of Microsoft Office Suite. You’re capable of learning new programs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Up to 50% travel will be part of the norm for this position to visit the bioprocessing facilities, meetings and site visits. At times overnight travel may be required.
  • In this role, you’ll be asked to drive a POET vehicle. A motor vehicle record check will be conducted during the pre-employment process.
  • The work environment at POET is dynamic. You should expect a balance between time spent in the office and at the bioprocessing facility, which may include some physical labor helping your team members.
  • Specific physical requirements may include:
  • Sitting for approximately 90% of the time while working on a personal computer.
  • Occasionally lifting weight up to sixty (60) pounds or less.
  • Climbing several flights of stairs and ladders.
  • Occasionally bending, twisting, and turning while lifting weights of less than fifty (50) pounds.
  • Walking of two (2) or more miles per day.
  • Working at heights, in confined spaces, and at temperatures from -20 to +100 degrees.
  • Standing for extended periods of time.
  • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
